Dualridge Vineyard - Howell Mountain, Napa Valley

$175.00

Dualridge Vineyard, situated at 1,800 feet above sea level on White Cottage Road of Howell Mountain, produces grapes that benefit from the unique high-altitude terroir of this renowned Napa sub-appellation. The elevation provides cooler temperatures and increased sunlight exposure, which coupled with the volcanic soils of Howell Mountain, results in grapes with intense concentration and structure. The challenging growing conditions, including rocky soils and well-drained terrain, force the vines to work harder producing smaller berries with thicker skins and more robust flavors.ย

Profile

The palate mirrors the aromatic intensity, unleashing a torrent of rich, concentrated dark fruit flavors. Blackberry, cassis, and black plum are dominant, coating the mouth with opulent fruit density and a powerful presence. The oak influence is substantial and well-integrated, contributing layers of dark chocolate, espresso bean, and vanilla pod. Distinctive savory notes of volcanic minerality, graphite, and a hint of mountain chaparral emerge as the wine unfolds on the palate, providing further depth and complexity that firmly roots it in Howell Mountain. The fruit richness is beautifully balanced by vibrant, yet refined acidity, preventing any sense of heaviness and ensuring a long, energetic finish.

Appearance: Deeply saturated black-purple core, almost opaque, radiating to a narrow, vibrant ruby rim. The color density is striking, suggesting immense concentration and extraction. The wine exhibits impressive viscosity, clinging to the glass with slow, deliberate legs, indicative of a full-bodied and richly structured wine. Crystal clear and luminous, showcasing pristine winemaking.

Aroma: The nose is immediately powerful and intensely aromatic, expressing the distinctive intensity of Howell Mountain fruit. Bold aromas of concentrated black fruits leap from the glass, led by cassis, blackberry liqueur, and black cherry jam, interwoven with assertive notes from the generous use of new French oak. Expect to find vanilla bean, dark roast coffee, and sweet cedar, alongside hints of clove and baking spice. Beneath the opulent fruit and oak, there are compelling nuances of graphite, crushed volcanic rock, and dried thyme, adding complexity and a distinct savory, mineral character emblematic of Howell Mountain's terroir. The aroma is commanding and layered, promising a wine of power, depth, and mountain intensity.

Winemaker notes

Hand picked at night, 100% destemmed, sorted and moved to whole berry fermenters. Fermented in closed top stainless steel tanks. Pumpovers, Pulseair and punchdowns deployed at different stages of fermentation based on realtime phenolic data.

This 2022 Dualridge Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a compelling and powerful expression of Howell Mountain terroir and Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon at its most structured and intense. It is a wine of significant power and depth, delivering a symphony of concentrated black fruit, assertive yet elegant oak nuances, and a distinctly mineral-driven, structured mouthfeel. The robust tannins and vibrant acidity suggest exceptional aging potential, promising to evolve and reveal even greater complexity and nuance over many years. This is a Cabernet Sauvignon that embodies the rugged intensity and distinctive character of Howell Mountain, a wine to cellar and savor, representing the pinnacle of Napa Valley mountain Cabernet.
