Nottingham Cellars

2023 BDX Blanc

, California

$24.00

We have sourced from some of the most incredible sites spanning California's dynamic coastline from Monterey County up to Mendocino to craft this beautiful Sauvignon Blanc. Our intention is to build a consistent, value driven Sauvignon Blanc that punches way above it's weight class to over deliver on quality to value.

Profile

The palate is crisp, dry, and utterly refreshing, driven by vibrant, mouth-watering acidity that provides energy and lift. Flavors mirror the nose: tart green apple, zesty grapefruit, and bright lime are prominent, complemented by green/herbal notes (gooseberry, maybe a subtle leafy character). The mineral core is evident on the mid-palate and extends into the finish, adding complexity and a savory edge. While crisp, the fruit concentration is good, preventing the wine from tasting thin and contributing to the sense of "punching above its weight" by offering flavor depth alongside its acidity.

Appearance: Pale lemon-yellow to bright straw color with youthful, vibrant green reflections. The wine is brilliantly clear and luminous, showcasing its freshness. It appears light-bodied with thin, fast-moving legs on the glass, consistent with a crisp, high-acid style.

Aroma: The aroma is immediately bright, lifted, and aromatic, reflecting the cool coastal influence and the vibrancy of the 2023 vintage. It leaps from the glass with classic Sauvignon Blanc notes of zesty grapefruit, lime peel, and green apple. Distinctive green/herbal notes are present – think freshly cut grass, gooseberry, and perhaps a hint of bell pepper or asparagus, depending on the specific coastal sites in the blend. Underlying complexity is suggested by subtle hints of passionfruit or guava (adding a touch of ripe fruit), intertwined with a prominent mineral character (wet stone, perhaps a subtle salinity from coastal proximity). The overall nose is clean, vibrant, and highly inviting.

Winemaker notes

This 2023 BDX Blanc is a beautifully crafted Sauvignon Blanc that successfully delivers on its promise of quality and value. It captures the vibrant energy and mineral character of California's diverse coastline, offering a complex and refreshing palate of citrus, green fruit, herbal notes, and a zesty, clean finish. Its high acidity and subtle depth make it incredibly versatile and highly drinkable, proving it is indeed a wine that "punches way above its weight class."
